In R.W. Kendall's Bonesy's Wolf Watching Service, the first book in the Dim's Enchanted Adventures series, a resurrected skeleton named Bonesy awakens with amnesia in a world teeming with conflict. His only companions are the resourceful goblin Grit and her loyal wolf, Grimmaw. Caught between warring factions, Bonesy must navigate treacherous political landscapes and confront his shadowy past, controlled by the powerful necromancer, Jeff. The looming threat of the dreaded skels adds to his peril as he struggles to uncover his identity and find a place in this strange new world, all while hoping to avoid being utterly destroyed in the process.

Review Bonesy's Wolf Watching Service
Oh my gosh, you guys, I just finished reading Bonesy's Wolf Watching Service, and I'm still grinning! It's one of those books that completely swept me away. The whole thing is told from the perspective of Bonesy, a reanimated skeleton who has absolutely no memory of his past life. And honestly, that's what made it so captivating. It's like having a quirky, slightly sarcastic skeleton pal recounting his wild adventures. The first-person narration really worked its magic; it felt incredibly intimate, like chatting with an old friend who's just bursting to share the most bizarre and hilarious stories.
I absolutely adored Bonesy's voice. He’s witty, observant, and completely relatable, even though he's, you know, a skeleton. His dry humor had me chuckling constantly. The way he navigates this fantastical world, full of goblins, warring factions, and the ominous presence of a necromancer named Jeff (who, by the way, kept me hooked – I had to know his deal!), was just pure comedic gold. The plot itself is refreshingly straightforward; there's plenty of adventure and intrigue, but it never gets bogged down in overly complicated plot lines. It’s a fast-paced, easy read that you can just fly through.
The world-building, while not overly detailed, is charmingly effective. You get just enough information to understand the dynamics between the goblins, humans, and skels (who are, frankly, terrifying!), without feeling overwhelmed. The supporting characters, especially Grit the goblin and her loyal wolf Grimmaw, are fantastically well-developed and add so much to the story. They provide a great counterpoint to Bonesy's somewhat clueless, yet endearing, personality.
The relationship between Bonesy and his newfound friends is heartwarming and forms the emotional core of the story. It’s not all slapstick; there are genuinely tender moments that highlight Bonesy’s growing understanding of friendship and loyalty. Seeing him try to find his place in this world, despite being a reanimated skeleton, is both hilarious and deeply touching.
Now, I will say that the editing could use a bit of a polish. I noticed a few typos and punctuation errors here and there, which occasionally pulled me out of the narrative. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but a second pass with a proofreader would make this book even better. Despite this minor flaw, Bonesy's Wolf Watching Service is a fantastic read. It's funny, adventurous, and genuinely heartwarming. If you're looking for a light-hearted fantasy adventure with a unique and engaging protagonist, then definitely give this book a try. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting the next installment of Dim’s Enchanted Adventures! Seriously, I need to know what happens next!
